Historical Era Biographies by the Mercer County Track & Field Hall of Fame

Get to know some fascinating Mercer County history by checking out a new section of the website: Historical Era Biographies!

There you’ll find photos and biographies of legends who ran for Mercer County schools before 1960. For example, learn about:

  • Walter Dohm, a Princeton high school graduate who set the world record in the 880y way back in 1891.

  • A.J. Rector, a Lawrenceville alumnus who won the silver medal in the 100m at the 1908 Olympic Games.

  • Charles Marshall, a multi-talented Peddie athlete who won or scored in five different events at the 1920 NJ State Prep Championship.

  • The 1941-42 Trenton Central XC teams, who went undefeated for two years and won back-to-back national championships.

  • Ed Poreda, who won state championships at Trenton Central in the 1940s and went on to coach at Lawrenceville for 40 years.

  • Carl Brown, a Princeton hurdler who dominated the 1955 Group 3 Championships with two golds, one silver, and a state record.

  • …and many more!

Special thanks to Coach Robert Marchetti, the historian for the Mercer County Track & Field Hall of Fame, who provided all of the photos and wrote all the biographies. Learn more about the Mercer County Track & Field Hall of Fame at their website: https://www.mercertrackhalloffame.com/.
