On May 20, Allentown’s “Night at the Nest” meet got some unlucky weather — blazing heat, then billowing winds, then major thunderstorms — that caused the meet’s 1600m heats to be cancelled halfway through.

Fortunately, WWP North stepped in and agreed to host a follow-up meet on May 26, which they fittingly dubbed Knights at the (Other) Nest. The weather was almost perfect for take two, and many of Mercer County’s top milers took advantage to set big PRs.

The highlight was an incredible performance by Allison Lee (WWP North, Sr.), who finished as the top girl in a jaw-dropping time of 4:40.41. She came into the race with a personal best of 4:49, but she attacked an even bigger time straight from the gun, tucking in with a pack of boys who went through halfway at 2:18. She held strong over the final laps to not just chop 9 seconds off her PR but also shatter the old CVC record of 4:48 set by WWP South’s Christina Rancan in 2016. And Lee’s time isn’t just historic on a local level — it elevated her to #4 all-time in New Jersey for the 1600m and #6 when including converted mile times.

The next and final heat was also a fast one, thanks in part to Agrim Jha (WWP North, So.) laying down a quick opening 400m of 62 seconds. He then clicked off 64s for the remaining laps for the wire-to-wire victory in a new PR of 4:15.97. Tyler Hurst (Steinert, Sr.) hung on Jha the longest and was rewarded for his gutsy race with a barrier-breaking school record of 4:19.85 for 2nd place. Rohan Varma (WWP North, So.) started out a little more conservatively but used a monster kick to claim 3rd place in a 9-second PR of 4:21.11.
